Good morning, friend. Before you check your phone, before the to-do list starts running through your head, I want you to try something with me: start today with grace and gratitude instead.
Not gratitude for the big, obvious things only — though those count too. I mean gratitude for the ordinary stuff. The bed you woke up in. The breath in your lungs. The cup of coffee warming your hands right now. It's easy to skip right past those things because they're so familiar, but familiar isn't the same as small. Every one of them is a gift.
And grace — give yourself some this morning too. Grace for the mistakes you made yesterday that are still nagging at you. Grace for the version of today's plan that might not go the way you hoped. Grace for the fact that you're not going to do everything perfectly, and that was never actually the requirement. Lamentations tells us His mercies are new every morning — not recycled from yesterday, not running low, brand new. That means today gets a clean start whether you feel ready for one or not.
Here's what I've noticed: the days I start by naming what I'm thankful for, even just three small things, go differently. Not because the circumstances change, but because I do. Gratitude has a way of softening a hard morning. Grace has a way of loosening a tight chest. Together, they set the tone before the world gets a chance to.
So before you dive into today, try this: name one thing you're grateful for, and give yourself one ounce of grace for something you've been carrying too tightly. That's it. That's the whole practice. Simple, but it changes the way you walk into everything else.
You don't have to earn a good morning. You just have to receive it.
If mornings are when you want to slow down and actually meet with God, my ebook Still, Small Voice was written to help you recognize His voice in the everyday. And Grace Unfolding is a gentle daily rhythm in the Word to start your morning off right.
