Good evening, friend. Before you turn off the lamp tonight, I want you to set something down.
Whatever you carried today — the sharp word someone said, the bill you're still figuring out, the worry about your kids or your health or your future — you weren't made to carry it into your sleep too. Some things are only meant to be held for a season, and tonight isn't the season for holding onto today's weight.
Peter tells us to cast all our anxiety on Him, because He cares for us. Not manage it quietly on our own. Not tuck it under the pillow and hope it's smaller in the morning. Cast it — throw it, hand it off, let it go. That's an active thing you get to do tonight, on purpose, before your head hits the pillow.
So here's what I do, and I'd love for you to try it with me: name the thing, out loud if you can. Say, "Lord, I'm handing You ___ tonight." Then let your shoulders actually drop. Let your breath actually slow down. You don't need it resolved to release it. You just need to trust the One who's holding it now is bigger than the thing itself.
Rest isn't a reward you earn after everything's fixed. It's a gift for right now, weight and all.
If you're the kind of soul who does your best praying in the quiet hours, my ebook Still, Small Voice was written for these moments — learning to hear Him in the stillness. And Grace Unfolding is a gentle way to end your day in the Word before you close your eyes.
I'm over on Instagram too — @mommajscozycottage. Come say goodnight.
With so much love,
Momma J 🤍
